BEHIND THE DESIGN: [Gundy] "Family Circus" Christmas Card Cover

Creating your own awkward family photo can be is fun!

With a few household props, blankets, cooperating family members, and a few magic sprinkles in post-production, creating a fun and unique holiday card is as easy as 1, 2, 3.  Or Panther, Hippo, Meerkat.  See below..

Step 1. Feed the children.  And the husband.

Step 2. Stage all necessary props, backdrops, and subjects (individually).  In this case, we used a lamp post and lighting stand for the "bars" and some sweet, photo-realistic animal shirts we found on Fab.com. Shoot away and, if you're lucky, one of them *might* turn out..

Step 3: Apply post-production magic sprinkles.  In this case, I used Photoshop to fill in the backgrounds, trim the bars, and create consistent lighting and shadow:

Step 4: Assemble and applaud.  Merge your "bars" together, add your graphic elements and text, and do a final lighting blend.  Send the final design off to your local printer, then begin the slow clap.

Now, go create some fun!
